Registration form: registration_final.pdf
It is not too early to begin making plans and mark your calendars to attend the 2019 National Convention.
June 22-27, 2019
Astor Crowne Plaza
New Orleans, Louisiana
The convention committee is putting together an event that will be great. There will be loads of interesting speakers and events that will definitely make it worth your time to attend.
Preliminary discussion is being done to determine if there would be an interest in organizing wellness sessions for members and guests in attendance. This would be in the format of fitness sessions that could include yoga, pilates, kickboxing, etc. If we have members interested in something like this, we would need to know a few things:
~ If you are interested, what is type of wellness would you most like to have offered?
~ Would you like the offering to be before the meetings start, i.e. at 6:00 a.m. - 6:45 a.m., or in the later afternoon, i.e. 30 minutes after the meetings end?
~ Do you have the skills to and willingness to lead one of the classes?
~ In lieu of an exercise type event, is there some other type of wellness session you would like, such as a nutrition specialist or registered dietitian?
Please respond to me, the NASE President, Beth Perkins.
We are encouraging all members that are able to attend the Zone C/D Meeting as well as National Convention. You can find more information on our Events page.
We are sorry to announce that the Zone A and Zone B meetings for 2019 has been cancelled due to "furlough fallout."
Please join us at Zone C&D and/or the National Convention in New Orleans. Check out our Events page for more information.
NASE MEMBERS AND FELLOW EMPLOYEES,
We are back to work and looking at receiving pay by January 31, 2019. This is the information I received when we returned to work this morning.
I had contact with several employees during the furlough, who were needing help financially. Please let NASE know if there is anything we can do to help.
I want all of you to know that my heart goes out to each and every one of your families and you . We have great jobs with USDA, FSA. Times like these are when you need NASE the most to network and support each other.
We, as federal employees and members of NASE, respect the fact that this furlough has been long enough. The unknown is the very worst of all.
Go back to work with the value of knowing we are the best at what we do. You can’t find better employees anywhere on the planet other than FSA!
HAVE AN AWESOME WEEK.
From the desk of President Beth Perkins...
The Presidents and Vice Presidents of the employee associations (NASE, NACS, NADD, NAOFEC and NASCOE) were invited to a conference call late yesterday (January 22) with the Administrator and his staff from the National Office. Everyone was updated on the call back of FSA employees starting Thursday, January 24.
Mr. Fordyce explained that FSA employees were changed from a “non-excepted” or “excepted” status to an “excepted on call” status under the guidance of OMB. The “excepted on call” status allows for more flexibility during this furlough period. He also stated that the call back of employees was necessary to avoid an impact to our customers and to maintain the integrity of our programs while protecting government assets and property.
A question was asked about unemployment compensation during this furlough, especially now being called back. The National Office is having conference calls with the Department of Labor tomorrow (January 23) to discuss how this call back will affect unemployment benefits. More information will be provided from National Office in the next few days.
As many of you have seen, a news release has been issued by the Department to notify customers that offices will be open to provide more services. We were also told that support services will be available to us through the FPAC Business Center, Finance Office and KCMO. OCIO/CTS services were uncertain at the time of our call.
There were many excellent comments/questions asked by the associations during our call. NACS made a very valid statement: “FSA employees are dedicated to providing services to our customers, but this call back to work without pay is creating an undue hardship on our employees in the form of commuting costs, day care, and routine work- related costs”. Mr. Fordyce said he recognizes the strain this is causing employees and is directing state offices to provide guidance to local managers to be as flexible as possible during this period. Mr. Fordyce also stated that no employees can be charged leave during this furlough if they have appointments or scheduling conflicts that cause them to be away from the office.

Dear NASE members
As we all cool our jets at home, don’t lose your focus. Patience is a virtue. (I haven’t been known for that ever, in my 65 years on the earth.) Let us learn from our past. We will need to look for the best out of our leadership.
We aren’t hearing any more than other associations. We would like to let you know your board can be reached on our home phones and at our personal emails. (See contact page)
We are looking forward to be able to return to work, just as you are.
Happy New Year
Beth Perkins, President
